A Prayer for Paul

Paul Cain

~ Written for Paul Cain by Bonnie Franklin  October 1996 ~

Please don’t give up now;
It’s not your time to die!
You will have your Isaac
Even if you’re ninety-nine!
Yea, Our Lord, works in mysterious ways;
He isn’t bound by our time;
He’s the Ancient of Days.
And this day He does stand and solemnly decree:
It shall all be as He does foresee;
Nothing shall be taken from thee!
Not even a grain of sand can slip away
Or be taken from out of the hourglass of His plans.

 For from out of the cancers and the sicknesses of life,
A child was born and given life;
And she who was told that there was not any hope,
Dared to dream and believe and to receive hope from her God up above;
And in this hope and in His love she did live
And survive to raise her young son,
As off her deathbed she did rise!
And Paul, her young son, became the apple of her eye,
Her new reason to live and her strength to rise.

 And as her babe grew and waxed strong

It wasn’t long before everyone knew
"This child was different - great things would he do!"
But he wasn’t a man pleaser or a woman pleaser or a people pleaser by far,
For his whole thoughts and heart’s desires
Were to please the Holy God who lived beyond the stars;
This Almighty One who made the earth and the heavens
And all of the wonderful things we see,
Became his soul’s desire;
The Lord of the Universe became his God and King.

As Paul grew, he bowed to no one on earth:

No person, no movements, no works of man;
But he followed in the course of his life
As was charted out by Heavenly Plans.
And as he walked down this road of God
He parted friendships many times
As he watched them go this way and that;
Yet, he continued on, sometimes just he and his God,
As the days of his lifetime were spent.

Many years have gone by now and the young man has grown old;

He has buried many of his loved ones
And most of the friends he has known.
And his feet have grown tired and his heart beats grown weak;
Yet, still he walks on not wanting to miss even one beat
Of what his God has to share with him;
There are still more places to go;
There are still more men for him to know.

And yes, someday, his Lord will walk him to his Heavenly Home;

Someday the path will end up at the gates of his eternal home.
But until that day and until the appointed hour and time,
This man will walk on with his God;
He will still walk upon the path that the Lord has designed.
For those who love him will not let him go
Until the Angel of the Lord decrees
"It is time for their Paul to go home.

"Let him stay, Lord, we pray; take not his breath away;

Strengthen him; renew his heart and spirit;
Pump new life within his veins;
May he, even as the one before him,
Rise up to walk again.
May he rise up to speak, rise up to teach;
Rise up to write, dictate and record
For the records of mankind
All the gifts that were given him by the Lord.
May his bed become a friend to him and his room not prison walls;
Unless they like the walls of the Holy Apostle
Become the chains to which he records it all;
All the wonders, all the works, all the mysteries of life…
May they be spoken of now and recorded
That we may read and learn from his life.

For if he, like the Apostle of Old, has a story to tell

And great wisdom to unfold,
May he begin to record all of these things
His visitations with the Angels; his meetings with the kings;
His encounters with God the Father and the Son;
His friendships with the Spirit and the Angelic Ones.
May all of the truth and the wisdom received,
Be recorded now for all of God’s posterity;
And even when he can no longer walk upon his feet,
We pray that he may walk on in the arms of his Angel;
May he still have some time to speak.
May the Lord’s Presence dwell here
And his home on earth be a Heavenly place to share;
May it become a gathering house of the Angels of the Lord,
As they make their presence known more real now than ever before.

And on that final day,
When and only when the Lord does say,
To call our dear Paul home,
May he go with an army of Heavenly Hosts,
As they usher him into the Lord’s Heavenly Home.
But, until that day and hour we pray
That Paul may know your mercy and your grace;
May he hear your voice and see your face.
May he receive new hope and purpose for his life;
May he have new visions and dreams;
Give him now the strength and the stamina to hope in you, Lord,
And to believe that Our God’s not through with him yet;
There’s still much He has left for him to do and fulfill for his King.
May these days and final hours be his most beloved offering.

For on that day, may he hear the Dear Lord say,

"Welcome home, my faithful friend and servant,
My son who walked with Me all of his days;
Welcome home to what I’ve prepared for you;
Welcome into the Arms of a Loving God who does so greatly love you!"

"But until that day, we pray not a moment will be taken away;
But let each and every second count, of each and every day.

May your Angels and your earthly sons
Become friends so sweet and dear,
That their times together shall become
Even as treasures to light his golden years.
May the Hope of Our God become his source of life;
May your presence be his everlasting staff of life;
May you, Our God, be everything our brother needs;
May all of his prayers be answered
And all of his friends be true friends indeed.

For truly, this man is a man of the Lord –A man of God like few in time before.
Receive our petitions for him, oh Lord, we pray;
Return unto Paul his mantle -
The very one he wore in his younger days.
We pray that when it is time for him to go home,
That like Elijah of old
May he leave "parting rivers as he goes".
We ask this, oh Lord, for your servant Paul;
It’s for his life we now do pray;
May the enemy not cut it short,
But may he be able to live out his days to a ripe old age.
And in glory & honor & power may he leave
To live with Thee, and not until then;
Please let him stay just awhile longer;
It’s for his life and ministry we do intercede and plead.

We ask this, this day, and in the Lord’s name do pray
That Our God may receive the glory of his final hour and no other;
For it’s to You that he belongs.
May Paul’s final days and hours
Be the greatest of all that were ever recorded of him and written down.
And when all has been done and when all has been said,
May the Hope of Our God bring new life unto our friend.
